The Bourlands
The Bourlands
Scott and Missy met nearly 40 years ago in a small church out in the country of a little town called Nineveh. No, not like in the Bible, like in Indiana.
They became high school sweethearts and married in June of 1986. God had called Scott to the ministry in the spring of 1986 and they moved, right after the wedding, to Little Rock Arkansas to attend the Missionary Baptist Seminary.
While in seminary, Scott was called to become the pastor of Landmark Baptist Church in Hope Arkansas. He served there for two years. While in Hope, God began to lay upon Scott’s heart the desire to return to Indiana.
They returned to Indiana in 1989 and took over a work in Edinburgh. Edinburgh Baptist Mission had been their home church before leaving for seminary, and was now in need of a missionary. Along with their sponsoring church Grace Baptist in Jonesboro Arkansas God was able to use the Bourlands to see that work become a self supporting church. But God had begun a passion in their hearts for new churches to be started.
So, after much prayer and seeking God’s will, God moved the Bourlands to Columbus Indiana to begin a new mission work there. Again along with Grace Baptist Church of Jonesboro, God was able to use them to establish a self supporting church.
God had clearly given the Bourlands the passion and gift of planting new churches, and He wasn’t finished yet. Again God led them to begin a new work, this time in Nineveh Indiana. The Bourlands served God in Nineveh for seven years.
While in Nineveh God began to work on the Bourland’s hearts to do foreign mission work. After much prayer and seeking God’s will, they surrendered to the foreign mission field of Kenya East Africa.
